At least 40 civilians dead in Tripoli strikes: Vatican official

ROME (Reuters) - At least 40 civilians have been killed in air strikes by Western forces on Tripoli, the top Vatican official in the Libyan capital told a Catholic news agency on Thursday, quoting witnesses.

"The so-called humanitarian raids have killed dozens of civilian victims in some neighborhoods of Tripoli," said Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, the Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli.

"Yesterday I said that bombardments had hit, albeit indirectly, some hospitals. To be precise, one of these hospitals is in Mizda," he said, mentioning a town about 145 km (90 miles) southwest of the capital.

Martinelli said living conditions in the Libyan capital were getting more difficult by the day, while on the ground a military stalemate appeared to be taking hold.

"That is why I say that a diplomatic solution is the principal way to put an end to the spilling of blood among Libyans, offering Gaddafi a dignified exit," he said.

Obama authorizes secret support for Libya rebels

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing covert U.S. government support for rebel forces seeking to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, government officials told Reuters on Wednesday.

In interviews with American TV networks on Tuesday, Obama said the objective was for Gaddafi to "ultimately step down" from power. He spoke of applying "steady pressure, not only militarily but also through these other means" to force Gaddafi out.

Obama said the U.S. had not ruled out providing military hardware to rebels. "It's fair to say that if we wanted to get weapons into Libya, we probably could. We're looking at all our options at this point," the President told ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer.

Defunding Education & Funding War

The ruling elite know exactly what they are doing. They are destroying everything that made America great to bring about their New World Order. If we don't wake up and fight back soon, we will lose more than tax money.

Amplify’d from www.activistpost.com
We need to spend our resources to better this country, not Afghanistan.  Our money needs to fund our education system, not Iraq’s.  Our income and hard work needs to fuel our economic engine, not China's.  The time is now to wake up to the reality that this country is being sold piece by piece to the factions of fascism.  We need to take our country back.
Defunding Education to Send America’s Future Abroad
As American politicians search for cuts in State and Federal spending to balance the economic scales, they are aiming to cut into social programs instead of concentrating their fire on the issues that have actually led to our current, monstrous debt situation: Military Expenditures, Corporate Welfare, and Foreign Aid.  As the Wars in the Middle East rage on, America is spending an astronomical amount of money in other nations while our own falls apart.
We need to return to a time where American invention, intellect and innovation leads the world.  If we continue upon the path we are on currently, we will be a nation of debtors and mindless workers akin to the same system of our greatest competitor and now part owner, China, possesses.  This drive toward the fascist states of America needs to stop, and those responsible for its initiation should be brought to justice.
Yes; this is a Liberal approach to politics and national spending.  Yes; it is the same approach so vehemently attacked by some in the political realm of mass media, but it is a view that is enveloped in the Dream that once was so vibrant in America when it cared and supported the future of its people.  It is the embodiment of the words etched upon the base of the Statue of Liberty; the dream that seems to be dying so very quickly along with the voice of America being drowned out by corporate interests supported by politicians whose bank accounts grow larger each time they propagate the policies of deception and degradation rotting the very heart of our once great Nation. The time has come to reclaim our Liberty; if not for ourselves, then for our children.

The first day of the month is typically a good one for market investors.

Tomorrow is March 1st. Will be interesting to see if this pattern holds.

Amplify’d from www.zerohedge.com
Tomorrow, of course, is March first and, as we all know, the first day of the month is THE BEST day to go long.  12 of the last 14 first day's of the month have been up days with the S&P gaining 17% on the first day of the month (Feb 1 not on this chart) and just 1.4% on all the rest of the day's combined!
So, miss the first day and miss out on the rally is a bit of an understatement, isn't it?  In 2010 alone, the first trading day accounted for 123 of the 134 points the S&P gained. Essentially, the market traded flat the other 200-plus trading days.

Seems the US government cannot get enough war.

Even if we don't wage a war on the people of north Africa, our military industrial complex will surely benefit from the instability in the region.

Amplify’d from www.lewrockwell.com

War Über Alles
The United
States government cannot get enough of war. With Libyan dictator
Moammar Gadhafi’s regime falling to a rebelling population, CNN
reports that a Pentagon spokesman said that the U.S. is looking
at all options from the military side.

Allegedly,
the Pentagon, which is responsible for one million dead Iraqis and
an unknown number of dead Afghans and Pakistanis, is concerned about
the deaths of 1,000 Libyan protesters.

War makes money
for the politically connected. While the flag-waving population
remains proud of the service of their sons, brothers, husbands,
fathers, cousins, wives, mothers and daughters, the smart boys who
got the fireworks started are rolling in the mega-millions.

As General
Smedley Butler told the jingoistic American population, to no avail,
"war is a racket." As long as the American population
remains proud that their relatives serve as cannon fodder for the
military/security complex, war will remain a racket.

We're Rapidly Approaching the Crisis to Which 2008 Was a Warm Up

Submitted by Phoenix Capital Research on 02/25/2011 23:05 -0500

Stocks broke
down in a big way this week, falling below the trendline that has supported
them since late August. Indeed, it looks as though we not only broke below this
line but have since rallied to retest it: a classic pattern during corrections.

The question
now is if this is just a minor correction or the start of something more. The
S&P 500 appears to have formed a rising bearish wedge pattern (see above),
which usually is a termination pattern that results in the underlying security
falling to retest its base (in this case 1050 or so on the S&P 500).

While this
might not seem like a big deal, I can assure it is THE most significant issue
the financial markets face right now. The reason for this is that IF the
Bernanke “Put” is no longer relevant, that is additional liquidity and
bailouts, doesn’t actually induce a rally anymore… then the entire financial
system will collapse in one form or another.

Remember,
the only thing that pulled us from the brink in 2008 was Bernanke printing like
a lunatic. It’s the ONLY thing that has held the market together. And while it
may have kicked off a major rally in stocks… it FAILED to address the underlying
issues that caused the Crisis in the first place: namely excessive debt and
leverage.

In fact,
Bernanke has made the financial system even MORE leveraged than it was in 2008.
So if the Fed’s moves no longer have an effect on the markets, then it’s time
for the REAL Crisis… the Crisis to which 2008 was a warm up.

The US Today: What Happens When You Let Investment Bankers Run a Country

Investment
banking as an industry runs almost completely contrary to wealth creation since
it thrives on fees rather that capital appreciation. Investment banking
is about making DEALS (any deals) regardless of whether the deals make sense or
benefit both parties (after all, the advisors to the deals, the investment
bankers, get paid based on commission and free stock).

Indeed,
investment banking is one of the few industries on the planet in which you can
get rich by creating debt for others to pay off. Goldman Sachs, as you know, is
an investment bank. And this financial crisis is riddled with former Goldman
Sachs and other Wall Street execs.

Indeed, you
can see the “investment banking” stamp everywhere.  Consider the major deals the Feds have created and consider
the actual benefit they offer to the parties involved:

§  Bear
Stearns/ JP Morgan

§  The
US taxpayer/ Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

§  The
US taxpayer/ AIG (and all of its counterparties)

§  Merrill
Lynch/ Bank of America

All of these
deals were terrible. All of them were rushed through. And all of them were
allowed because of lax regulation/ poor analysis. To this day no one in the
mainstream media seems to have adequately analyzed these deals in a way that
includes actual numbers. Instead we get dopey adages like “it’s about stemming
the tide,” it’s important to “stop the bleeding,” “it’s about saving the
system.”

The Intent of the Global Ruling Class is to Rule

There is a global awakening occurring. People are realizing they aren't serfs, owned by governments and the criminals that control them. Wake up humanity!

Amplify’d from www.lewrockwell.com

The
Intent of the U.S. Ruling Class Is Total Tyranny: We Must Stop It!

The Imperial
United State of America is headed straight to hell, and without
an honest awakening by the conceited, and seemingly unconcerned
sheep-like masses, this departure from grace will happen before
most are aware of the imminent collapse.

The government and its controlling partners are in perpetual
war with those who never attacked or threatened to attack us. The
military power structure is entrenched in most all countries around
the world. We are now a people that are spied upon, groped, x-rayed,
harassed, and stolen from on a daily basis.
Government literally lives and thrives
on the blood and sweat of others, a literal vampire in disguise
living off its gullible host. That host of course, is the very people
who put the government in power in the first place. This is an irony
that is almost impossible to bear.

In addition to the standard smartphone equipment, such as a camera and social networking applications, we’ve compiled a list of five additional tools that can help a single journalist rival a fully-functional news team. With these tools, a mobile journalist can record data, edit clips, and broadcast polished stories as events unfold.

1. Voice Recorder/Google Voice

4. Fast Thumbs and Sync-able Memos

Today, everything a journalist needs to publish a story is only a few clicks away. In addition to speedy publication, inexpensive reporting allows less-endowed news outfits to blanket an area with more reporters. For instance, at Penn State, an unofficial campus newspaper, Onward State, is taking on the century-old university standby The Daily Collegian. According to sources at Onward State, a combination of mobile journalism and social media has helped the rogue publication become a competitor to the more established, award-winning official newspaper.

From college campuses to the streets of Tehran, a combination of low costs and hyper-local resourcefulness is democratizing the world of news journalism, putting the power of the press, literally, into the hands of every citizen.

Google has run a sting operation that it says proves Bing has been watching what people search for on Google, the sites they select from Google’s results, then uses that information to improve Bing’s own search listings. Bing doesn’t deny this.

Google: Is Bing Copying Us?

Is It Illegal?

Suffice to say, Google’s pretty unhappy with the whole situation, which does raise a number of issues. For one, is what Bing seems to be doing illegal? Singhal was “hesitant” to say that since Google technically hasn’t lost anything. It still has its own results, even if it feels Bing is mimicking them.

Is it Cheating?

If it’s not illegal, is what Bing may be doing unfair, somehow cheating at the search game?

8 Reasons College Tuition Is the Next Bubble to Burst

Amplify’d from nakedlaw.avvo.com
Here are 8 reasons to believe we’re in the middle of a college tuition bubble (that’s about to burst).
1) Tuition is, and has been, increasing at double triple the rate of inflation
2) Students are borrowing more than ever to pay for college
3) For profit colleges are paying homeless people to take out federal loans to enroll
4) Colleges are on a non-teaching staff hiring spree that far outpaces enrollment

5) For profit reliance on federal loans has reached an all time high
6) Schools are spending on luxurious amenities to lure in more students

7) College president salaries are sky high, even in a historical economic downturn
8) The student loan problem cuts across all schools, for profit and nonprofit

hose fault is this?

The federal government for making student loans non dischargeable in bankruptcy and loosening lending standards? S

Whose fault is this?

The federal government for making student loans non dischargeable in bankruptcy and loosening lending standards? State governments for refusing to directly fund higher education?  Schools for taking advantage of students and relying too much on tuition increases? Lenders for handing out student loans like candy? Students for borrowing money like there’s no tomorrow?

One thing is for sure, things cannot continue as they are, regardless of how we got to this point.  The housing bubble gave America a hard lesson in what happens when loose credit leads to unsustainable prices.  But unlike the housing bubble, in which foreclosure and bankruptcy allowed people to have a fresh start, the college tuition bubble will haunt young people for life unless bankruptcy laws change.

At the White House State dinner on Jan. 19, about six minutes into his set, Lang Lang began tapping out a famous anti-American propaganda melody from the Korean War: the theme song to the movie “Battle on Shangganling Mountain.”

The film depicts a group of “People’s Volunteer Army” soldiers who are first hemmed in at Shanganling (or Triangle Hill) and then, when reinforcements arrive, take up their rifles and counterattack the U.S. military “jackals.”

The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades. CCP propaganda has always referred to the Korean War as the “movement to resist America and help [North] Korea.” The message of the propaganda is that the United States is an enemy—in fighting in the Korean War the United States’ real goal was said to be to invade and conquer China. The victory at Triangle Hill was promoted as a victory over imperialists.

“My Motherland” having been played at the White House will be seen as a propaganda triumph in China.

n as anything other than a big insult to the U.S.,” says Yang Jingduan, a Chinese psychiatrist n

“In the eyes of all Chinese, this will not be seen as anything other than a big insult to the U.S.,” says Yang Jingduan, a Chinese psychiatrist now living in Philadelphia who had in China been a doctor in the Chinese military. “It’s like insulting you in your face and you don’t know it, it’s humiliating.”

Yang sees Lang Lang choosing this tune as an expression of the deeply anti-American propaganda that is constant in China.

“This deeply anti-American chauvinism has been fanned by the CCP for years; Lang Lang is expressing the feelings of this generation of angry young people,” Yang said.

How To Do More High Yield Internet Marketing Activities

"The Pledge" sounds like a book I could benefit from reading.

Last night I finished reading Michael Masterson’s “The Pledge.” It’s a book about goal setting at first, but rather then just leave you with your goals, Masterson fills out the bulk of the book with strategies to help you actually achieve those goals. Some strategies are very cerebral and some are as practical as “How To Be An Early Riser.”

HIGH YIELD ACTIVITIES FOR INTERNET MARKETERS

  • Writing blog posts for flagship sites (for me, that would be sites like MichelleMacPhearson.com *not* content/affiliate sites)

  • Writing email broadcasts

  • Writing autoresponder sequences

  • Filming video you’ll release for freebie content

  • Creating content (video, PDF’s, images) for products you’ll sell

  • Writing sales copy

  • Broadcasting the availability of new content to your networks like Twitter & Facebook

Obama to ease travel restrictions to Cuba, allow more U.S. cash to island

WASHINGTON --
The Obama administration Friday said it will allow for more U.S. travel to Cuba, making it easier for schools, churches and cultural groups to visit the island.

A senior Obama official told The Miami Herald the much-expected move to expand cultural, religious and educational travel to Cuba is part of the administration's continuing ``effort to support the Cuban people's desire to freely determine their own future.

President Barack Obama is also restoring the amount of money ($2,000) that can be sent to nonfamily members to the level they were at during part of the Clinton and Bush administrations. There will be a quarterly limit on the amount that any American can send: $500 per quarter to ``support private economic activity.''
